Netflix's End of the Fu*king World (EOTFW) has second most talked digital film look after Stranger Things. While it's a breeze to achieve a film emulation like EOTFW on high budget grading suites, we've been working on a way to recreate this look at an indie level. So if you're looking to recreate EOTFW look in premiere pro, we’ve got you covered with our Swarland MOD LUT.

Here’s our attempt to bring that film look to your average consumer camera footage. We worked around to break down the look into standard repeatable process, requiring us to experiment on different elements of a footage. We then rigorously tested out the exported LUTs. Finally altering our Swarland LUT to give the required output.

Swarland LUT is a part of our Bundle pack. (check it out here) It’s amazing to see how our bundle pack easily holds up to recreate any grade out there. From blockbusters like Blade Runner to Art house films like Call Me by Your Name, also including series like Peaky Blinders and Euphoria. We’ve recreated almost every aesthetic, you can check it out on our Instagram page. Okay back to our grade, let’s get into it.

Step 1

So first things first, in case you like to shoot in a flat/log profile, let’s color correct our footage. We can do that by adding contrast and saturation and finally fixing white balance. In case you don’t know how to color correct a flat footage, check out our YouTube tutorials on how to color correct a footage in Premiere Pro.

Step 2

We are going to duplicate the video layer. Place it on top of existing layer. Add Lumetri panel to this layer and set the saturation to 0. Then, we’re going to set the blending mode of the duplicated layer to “Overlay”. Finally set the opacity to somewhere between 50-60. This process is called bleach bypass.

Step 3

Add an adjustment layer on top of the footages. Add a Lumetri Panel. We’ll go to creative section and apply Swarland Mod LUT. Right off the bat, it might look nothing like our reference shot. Then we are going to use temperature and tint slider to make minor color adjustments to make our footage look more like our reference shots.

Film look is back with series like End of the Fu*king World and Stranger things. We're glad that we were easily able to reproduce the film look with our Bundle Pack. As we always recommend investing in LUTS that give you a comprehensive variety ( without compromising on quality and sophistication ), we're pleased that our own LUTS live up to this motto specially in today's market where terms like "CINEMATIC LUTS" are loosely thrown around. If you want to check out our LUTS, they are on our homepage.
